بَيْنَ عَصْرِ الظَّلَامِ وَمَطْلَعِ الْفَجْرِ.

Between the age of darkness and the breaking of the dawn.

فَلَمَّا قَوِيَ أَمْرُهُ، أَذِنَ اللَّهُ لَهُ فِي الْجَهْرِ بِدَعْوَتِهِ.

Once his position grew strong, Allah permitted him to proclaim his message publicly.

فَأَقْبَلَ عَلَى قَوْمِهِ، يُنْذِرُهُمْ وَيَنْهَاهُمْ عَنْ عِبَادَةِ الْأَصْنَامِ، فَثَارَ عَلَيْهِ الْمُكَابِرُونَ.

He turned to his people, warning them and forbidding them from idol worship, but the arrogant among them revolted.

وَغَضِبَ عَلَيْهِ قَوْمٌ، وَسَخِرَ مِنْهُ آخَرُونَ.

Some were angered by him, while others mocked him.

وَأَلْحَقُوا بِهِ مِنْ صُنُوفِ الْأَذَى مَا لَا يَخْطُرُ بِالْبَالِ.

They subjected him to unimaginable forms of abuse.

وَلَكِنَّهُ اعْتَصَمَ بِالصَّبْرِ، وَاسْتَعَانَ بِاللَّهِ عَلَى مَا لَقِيَهُ مِنْ بَلَاءٍ.

Yet he held fast to patience and sought Allah’s help against the trials he faced.

لَقَدْ أَسْلَمَ بَعْدَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ جَمَاعَةٌ مِنْ صَفْوَةِ قَوْمِهِ.

After Abu Bakr, a group from the elite of his people embraced Islam.

وَلَكِنَّ أَشْرَارَ قُرَيْشٍ ضَاعَفُوا مِنْ كَيْدِهِمْ، فَرَاحُوا يُصَارِحُونَهُ بِالْعَدَاوَةِ وَالْكُفْرِ، وَكَانَ يَتَوَلَّى زَعَامَتَهُمْ أَبُو جَهْلٍ.

The wicked of Quraish redoubled their plotting, openly declaring their hostility and disbelief under the leadership of Abu Jahl.

أَلَمْ يَكُنْ قَوْمُهُ يُطْلِقُونَ عَلَيْهِ، مُنْذُ طُفُولَتِهِ، لَقَبَ: الصَّادِقِ الْأَمِينِ لِصِدْقِهِ وَأَمَانَتِهِ؟

Had his people not called him 'The Truthful, The Trustworthy' since childhood because of his honesty and integrity?

فَلِمَاذَا تَنَكَّرُوا لِدَعْوَتِهِ، وَتَفَنَّنُوا فِي عَدَاوَتِهِ، بَعْدَ أَنْ بَعَثَهُ اللَّهُ إِلَيْهِمْ بِرِسَالَتِهِ؟!

Why then did they reject his message and devise such creative ways to oppose him after Allah sent him to them?

لَقَدْ طَمَسَ اللَّهُ عَلَى قُلُوبِ الْمُعَانِدِينَ مِنْهُمْ، وَلَوْ أَنَارَ بَصَائِرَهُمْ لَعَرَفُوا الْحَقَّ فَاتَّبَعُوهُ.

Allah has sealed the hearts of the stubborn among them; had He illuminated their insight, they would have recognized the truth and followed it.

عَلَى أَنَّ ذَلِكَ كُلَّهُ لَمْ يَثْنِ مِنْ عَزْمَتِهِ، وَلَمْ يَكُفَّهُ عَنْ غَايَتِهِ، فَظَلَّ يَنْتَهِزُ مَوَاسِمَ الْحَجِّ لِبَثِّ دَعْوَتِهِ فِي الْقَبَائِلِ الَّتِي تَأْتِي لِلْحَجِّ إِلَى الْبَيْتِ الْحَرَامِ.

None of this deterred his resolve or hindered his goal; he continued to use the Hajj season to spread his message among the tribes arriving at the Sacred House.

اِسْتِجَابَةُ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ.

The response of the people of Medina.

لَقَدْ كَانَ مِنْ بَشَائِرِ التَّوْفِيقِ أَنْ يَهْتَدِيَ بِنُورِهِ، حِينَئِذٍ، سِتَّةٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ، شَرَحَ اللَّهُ صُدُورَهُمْ، وَأَنَارَ قُلُوبَهُمْ، فَلَمْ يَكَدْ يَعْرِضُ عَلَيْهِمْ رِسَالَتَهُ، حَتَّى أَشْرَقَتْ نُفُوسُهُمْ بِنُورِهَا.

It was a sign of divine success that six men from Medina were guided by his light; Allah opened their hearts and illuminated their spirits, so that as soon as he presented his message, their souls shone with its truth.

فَلَمَّا عَادُوا إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ نَشَرُوا رِسَالَتَهُ فِي قَوْمِهِمْ وَصَحَابَتِهِمْ، فَآمَنَ بِهَا جَمَاعَةٌ مِنْهُمْ.

Upon returning to Medina, they spread his message among their people and companions, and many believed.

فَلَمَّا كَانَ الْمَوْسِمُ التَّالِي فِي الْعَامِ الْقَابِلِ، قَدِمَ عَلَى الرَّسُولِ اثْنَا عَشَرَ مَدَنِيًّا، أَعْلَنُوا إِسْلَامَهُمْ.

When the next Hajj season arrived the following year, twelve men from Medina came to the Messenger and declared their Islam.

فَلَمَّا جَاءَ الْعَامُ الثَّالِثُ أَقْبَلَ عَلَيْهِ ثَلَاثَةٌ وَسَبْعُونَ رَجُلًا وَامْرَأَتَانِ، وَأَعْلَنُوا لَهُ إِسْلَامَهُمْ، وَأَنْهَوْا إِلَيْهِ شَوْقَ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ إِلَى لِقَائِهِ، فَوَعَدَهُمْ بِالْهِجْرَةِ إِلَيْهِمْ.

In the third year, seventy-three men and two women came to him, declared their faith, and expressed the longing of the people of Medina to meet him, so he promised to migrate to them.

فَانْبَعَثَ لِلْهِجْرَةِ، مَشْرِقُ النُّورِ الْإِلَهِيِّ، الَّذِي اهْتَدَى بِهِ الْمَلَايِينُ إِلَى هَذَا الْيَوْمِ.

Thus began the migration of the source of divine light, by which millions have been guided to this day.
