بَيْنَ عَصْرِ الظَّلَامِ وَمَطْلَعِ الْفَجْرِ.

Between the age of darkness and the dawn of a new era.

عَلَى أَنَّ عَمَّهُ قَدْ خَيَّبَ ظُنُونَ أَعْدَائِهِ، فَنَادَاهُ قَائِلًا: «اذْهَبْ، يَا ابْنَ أَخِي وَقُلْ مَا شِئْتَ، فَوَاللَّهِ لَا أَسْلَمْتُكَ لِسُوءٍ أَبَدًا.»

His uncle, however, defied his enemies' expectations and called out to him, 'Go, my nephew, and say what you wish. By Allah, I will never hand you over to harm.'

لَقَدْ كُنْتَ عَلَى وَشْكِ أَنْ تُحَدِّثَنَا بِمَوْقِفٍ آخَرَ مِنْ مَوَاقِفِهِ الرَّائِعَةِ.

You were about to tell us of another of his remarkable deeds.

أَرَادَ الرَّسُولُ ﷺ أَنْ يَدْخُلَ الْكَعْبَةَ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ، فَدَفَعَهُ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ طَلْحَةَ، وَمَنَعَهُ مِنْ دُخُولِهَا، فَقَالَ لَهُ الرَّسُولُ مُحَذِّرًا: «لَا تَفْعَلْ يَا عُثْمَانُ، فَكَأَنَّكَ بِمِفْتَاحِهَا بِيَدِي، أَضَعُهُ حَيْثُ شِئْتُ.»

The Messenger (PBUH) once wanted to enter the Kaaba, but Uthman ibn Talha pushed him back and barred his way. The Messenger warned him, 'Do not do this, Uthman, for one day you will see its key in my hand, and I will place it wherever I choose.'

فَأَجَابَهُ عُثْمَانُ سَاخِرًا: «لَقَدْ ذَلَّتْ قُرَيْشٌ وَقَلَّتْ.»

Uthman replied mockingly, 'Quraysh has become weak and few.'

فَأَجَابَهُ الرَّسُولُ مُتَحَدِّيًا: «بَلْ كَثُرَتْ وَعَزَّتْ.»

The Messenger challenged him, 'On the contrary, it has become many and mighty.'

اللهُ أَكْبَرُ. صَدَقَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَقَدْ كَثُرَتْ بِهِ قُرَيْشٌ وَعَزَّتْ.

Allah is the Greatest. The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) spoke the truth; through him, Quraysh became many and mighty.

بَلْ شَرُفَتِ الدُّنْيَا كُلُّهَا.

In fact, the entire world was ennobled.

لَقَدْ كَانَ الْخَيْرُ يَتْبَعُهُ حَيْثُمَا حَلَّ.

Goodness followed him wherever he went.

لَقَدْ نَجَا الْبَيْتُ الْحَرَامُ يَوْمَ وِلَادَتِهِ مِنَ التَّخْرِيبِ، وَحُفِظَتْ ثَرْوَةُ السَّيِّدَةِ خَدِيجَةَ مِنَ الضَّيَاعِ لَمَّا قَامَ عَلَى أَمْرِهَا وَتَعَهَّدَهَا وَهُوَ شَابٌّ.

The Sacred House was spared destruction on the day of his birth, and Lady Khadija’s wealth was preserved from loss when he took charge of her affairs and managed them as a young man.

بَلْ نَمَتْ وَضُوعِفَتْ بِفَضْلِ إِخْلَاصِهِ وَأَمَانَتِهِ.

It even grew and multiplied, thanks to his sincerity and trustworthiness.

لَقَدْ تَزَوَّجَهَا وَهُوَ فِي الْخَامِسَةِ وَالْعِشْرِينَ مِنْ عُمُرِهِ.

He married her when he was twenty-five.

لَقَدْ ثَبَّتَتْ قَوْلَهُ حِينَ نَزَلَ عَلَيْهِ الْوَحْيُ.

She stood by his words when the revelation first came to him.

كَانَ حِينَئِذٍ قَدْ بَلَغَ الْأَرْبَعِينَ.

He had reached the age of forty by then.

نَعَمْ، وَقَدْ هَبَطَ عَلَيْهِ جِبْرِيلُ فِي غَارِ حِرَاءَ.

Yes, and Gabriel descended upon him in the Cave of Hira.

كَانَ الرَّسُولُ يُؤْثِرُ الْعُزْلَةَ فِيهِ، وَيَتَّخِذُهُ لِلْعِبَادَةِ.

The Messenger preferred to seclude himself there for worship.

لَقَدْ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي أَنَّهُ رَأَى هَذَا الْغَارَ فِي الْعَامِ الْمَاضِي وَأَخْبَرَنِي أَنَّهُ غَارٌ هَادِئٌ عَلَى قِمَّةِ جَبَلِ حِرَاءَ.

My father told me he saw this cave last year and described it as a quiet place at the summit of Mount Hira.

وَلَعَلَّهُ حَدَّثَكَ أَنَّ السَّيِّدَةَ خَدِيجَةَ كَانَتْ تُعِدُّ لِلنَّبِيِّ الطَّعَامَ، لِيَأْخُذَهُ مَعَهُ إِلَى الْغَارِ، حَتَّى إِذَا نَفِدَ الزَّادُ عَادَ إِلَيْهَا، فَجَهَّزَتْ لَهُ زَادًا غَيْرَهُ.

Perhaps he also told you that Lady Khadija used to prepare food for the Prophet to take with him to the cave; whenever his provisions ran out, he would return to her, and she would prepare more.
