- Meaning that this hadith is a compilation of their speech, and this is something done by some of the leading narrators, such as al-Zuhri and others; a group would narrate to him regarding a story among the stories, such as the hadith of the Ifk (the Slander), for example, so they collect this and put it into one hadith, and they point to this by saying—for example—'The hadith of some of them entered into the hadith of others,' or he says: 'Some of them narrated to me such-and-such, and others such-and-such,' and what is similar to that.
- His saying: 'In the Battle of Tabuk': Tabuk is on the outskirts of the Levant, and this battle took place in Rajab when the fruits had ripened, and there were about thirty thousand with the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in this battle, and when they set out, Abdullah ibn Ubayy returned with about half of the camp, to the point that it was said that it was not known which of the two armies was greater, those who returned or those who went, which indicates the abundance of hypocrisy in that year, and it was in the ninth year, and the reason for it was that it was said to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that a people from the Romans and the Christianized Arabs were gathering against him, so he wanted to raid them (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to demonstrate strength and out of faith in the victory of Allah, the Almighty and Majestic.
- His saying: 'We have not seen': It may be visual, and it may be cognitive/perceptual.
