Avoid, meaning leave.
It is actually more intense than merely leaving something.
A person might leave something while remaining close to it.
When you are told to avoid something, it means to leave it and keep your distance.
His statement: The seven destructive sins.
This does not imply a strict limitation, as other destructive sins exist.
The Prophet sometimes highlights specific categories or types.
He does not mean that others do not exist.
An example is the hadith: The seven whom Allah will shade in His shade on the day when there is no shade but His.
There are others besides them.
Similarly: Three whom Allah will not speak to on the Day of Resurrection.
Examples of this are numerous.
If we argue that the hadith of Abu Hurairah implies a limit because it uses the definite article, then he restricted it because these are the greatest of the major sins.
His statement: They asked, O Messenger of Allah, what are they?
The companions were the most eager of all people for knowledge.
When the Prophet presented something to them in general terms, they sought interpretation and clarification.
When the Prophet warned them against the seven destructive sins, they asked so they could avoid them, and he informed them.
This applies except for what they knew was wiser to leave unsaid.
This follows the rule that the companions were the most eager for knowledge.
The hadith of Abu Hurairah from the Prophet: Seven whom Allah will shade in His shade on the day when there is no shade but His.
A just leader, a youth who grew up worshipping Allah, and a man whose heart is attached to the mosques.
Two men who loved each other for the sake of Allah, meeting and parting on that basis.
A man seduced by a beautiful woman of high status, who says: I fear Allah.
A man who gives charity so secretly that his left hand does not know what his right hand has spent.
A man who remembers Allah in private, and his eyes overflow with tears.
The hadith of Abu Dharr that the Prophet said: Three whom Allah will not speak to on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He look at them or purify them, and for them is a painful punishment.
He said: The Messenger of Allah repeated this three times.
Abu Dharr said: They have failed!
