It (the horse) gallops when the swimmers (of the horses' legs) stir up dust on the weary ground, kicking up stones.
ونيْت في الأمر أني ونى وونيا، أي ضعفت، فأنا وان.
I became weak in the matter, I am weak and weary, meaning I became weak, so I am weak.
وناقة وانية.
And a weary she-camel.
وأونيتها أنا: أتعبتها وأضعفتها.
And I made it weary: I tired it and weakened it.
وفلان لا يني يفعل كذا، أي لا يزال يفعل كذا.
And so-and-so does not cease doing such-and-such, meaning he continues to do such-and-such.
وافعل ذاك بلا ونية، أي بلا توان.
And do that without delay, meaning without procrastination.
وامرأة وناة: فيها فتور، وقد تقلب الواو همزة فيقال: أناة.
And a woman who is wanāh: she has a languor, and the waw is sometimes changed to a hamza, so it is said: anāh.
رمته أناة من ربيعة عامر * نئوم الضحى في مأتم أي مأتم
She was struck by a gentle woman from Rabi'a 'Amir, who sleeps late in the morning in mourning, in any mourning.
وتوانى في حاجته: قصر.
And he procrastinated in his need: he fell short.
ولا يدع الحمد بل يشترى * بوشك الظنون ولا بالتون
And he does not abandon praise, rather he buys it with the swiftness of suspicions and not with delay.
الميناء: كلاء السفن ومرفؤها، وهو مفعال من الونى.
