And in the Hadith, it is mentioned that he, peace be upon him, was brought a roasted sheep, meaning grilled.
ويقال أيضا: صليت الرجل نارا، إذا أدخلته النار وجعلته يصلاها.
And it is also said: I made the man endure fire, if you put him into the fire and made him endure it.
فإن ألقيته فيها إلقاء كأنك تريد إحراقه قلت: أصليته بالألف، وصليته تصلية.
If you throw him into it as if you intend to burn him, you say: I made him burn (asliytuhu) with the alif, and I roasted him (sallaytuhu) with tasliyah.
ومن خفف فهو من قولهم: صلي فلان النار بالكسر يصلى صليا: احترق.
And whoever lightens it (the shaddah) it is from their saying: So-and-so suffered fire (saliya) with a kasrah, he suffers (yasla) burning (saliyan): he was burned.
أولى بها صليا
Woe to him for the burning!
تالله لولا النار أن نصلاها
By God, if not for the fire that we would endure it.
ويقال أيضا: صلي بالأمر ; إذا قاسى حره وشدته.
And it is also said: to endure the matter; meaning to suffer its heat and severity.
ولا تبلى بسالتهم وإن هم * صلوا بالحرب حينا بعد حين
And their bravery will not fade, even if they * endured the war for a time after a time.
وقد تصليت حر حربهم * كما تصلى المقرور من قرس
And I have endured the heat of their war * as the chilled endures from the cold.
