لأنه يقال رضيت معيشته على ما لم يسم فاعله، ولا يقال رضيت.

Because it is said his livelihood was made satisfactory (passive), and it is not said 'I was satisfied with his livelihood'.

ويقال: رضيت به صاحبا.

And it is said: I was pleased with him as a companion.

وربما قالوا: رضيت عليه، بمعنى رضيت به وعنه.

And sometimes they say: I was pleased with him (over him), meaning I was pleased with him and from him.

إذا رضيت علي بنو قشير * لعمر الله أعجبني رضاها

If the Banu Qushayr were pleased with me, by God, their contentment pleased me.

وأرضيته عني ورضيته بالتشديد أيضا، فرضي.

And I satisfied him on my behalf, and I appeased him with doubling also, so he was satisfied.

وترضيته: أرضيته بعد جهد.

And tarḍiyatuhu: I satisfied him after effort.

واسترضيته فأرضاني.

وراضاني فلان فرضوته أرضوه بالضم، إذا غلبته فيه، لأنه من الواو.

And so-and-so appeased me, so I overcame him in it (with dammah), if I overcame him in it, because it is from waw.

وإنما قالوا رضيت عنه رضا وإن كان من الواو، كما قالوا شبع شبعا، وقالوا رضي لمكان الكسر، وحقه أن يقال رضو.

And they only said 'I was content with him, riḍā' even though it is from waw, just as they said 'he was full, shab'an', and they said 'raḍiya' because of the kasrah, and its proper form should be 'raḍuwa'.

ورضوى: جبل بالمدينة، والنسبة إليه رضوى.

And Radwa: a mountain in Medina, and the attribution to it is Radwī.
