So whoever says the breast is masculine says they only added the haa in the diminutive because its meaning is 'hand'.
وذلك أن يده كانت قصيرة مقدار الثدى، يدل على ذلك أنهم يقولون فيه: ذو اليدية، وذو الثدية جميعا.
And that is because his hand was short, the measure of a breast; this is indicated by the fact that they say about him: 'Dhu al-yadayyah', and 'Dhu ath-thudayyah' both.
قال ثعلب: الثندوة بفتح أولها غير مهموز، مثال الترقوة والعرقوة، على فعلوة، وهى مغرز الثدى.
Tha'lab said: 'Ath-thunduwah' with the first letter open (fatha) and unhamzated, like 'at-tarquwah' and 'al-'irquwah', on the pattern of 'fa'luwah', and it is the base of the breast.
فإذا ضممت همزت وهى فعللة.
And if you pronounce it with damma, you hamzate it, and it is on the pattern of 'fa'lalatu'.
قال أبو عبيدة: وكان رؤبة يهمز الثندؤة وسئة القوس.
Abu Ubaydah said: And Ru'bah used to hamzate 'ath-thund'u'ah' and 'sa'atu al-qaws'.
قال: والعرب لا تهمز واحدا منهما.
He said: And the Arabs do not hamzate either of them.
