ويقال للبعير إذا كان باقيا على السير: إنه لذو براية، وهو الشحم واللحم.
And it is said of a camel when it endures travel: it is indeed possessed of endurance, which is fat and flesh.
على حت البراية زمخرى ال*سواعد ظل في شرى طوال
On the worn-out flesh of endurance, the forearms are thick, casting a shadow in long reeds.
والمبراة: الحديدة التى يبرى بها السهام.
And al-mibrāh: the iron tool with which arrows are shaped.
وأنت في كفك المبراة والسفن
And you have in your hand the arrow-shaping tool and the sails.
وبريت القلم بريا، وبريت البعير أيضا، إذا حسرته وأذهبت لحمه.
And I sharpened the pen with sharpening, and I weakened the camel too, if you exhausted it and removed its flesh.
والبرة: حلقة من صفر تجعل في لحم أنف البعير.
And al-burrah: a ring of brass that is placed in the flesh of a camel's nose.
وإذا كانت البرة من شعر فهى الخزامة.
And if the burrah is made of hair, then it is al-khuzāmah.
وأصل البرة بروة، لانها جمعت على برى، مثل قرية وقرى.
And the origin of al-burrah is burwah, because it is collected as buray, like qaryah and qura.
وتجمع على برات وبرين.
And it is collected as burrāt and burrayn.
وإذا جعلت في أنفها البرة، فهى ناقة مبراة.
And if a burrah is placed in its nose, then it is a female camel that has been fitted with a nose ring.
فقربت مبراة تخال ضلوعها * من الماسخيات القسى الموترا
So I brought near a female camel fitted with a nose ring, you would think its ribs * were from the tough, stretched hides of the Masikhiyyah.
وكل حلقة من سوار وقرط وخلخال وما أشبهها برة.
And every ring of a bracelet, earring, anklet, and what resembles them is a burrah.
ووقعقعن الخلاخل والبرينا
And they jingled the anklets and the burayna.
