He is noble among the nobility, and a man of mixed lineage among the ignoble.
والهجنة في الناس والخيل، إنما تكون من قبل الأم، فإذا كان الأب عتيقا والأم ليست كذلك كان الولد هجينا.
And ignobility in people and horses comes only from the mother's side; if the father is noble and the mother is not, the offspring is 'hajin'.
العبد والهجين والفلنقس * والاقراف من قبل الاب.
The slave, the 'hajin', and the 'fulanaqis' are from the father's side.
فإن نتجت حرا كريما فبالحرا * وإن يك إقراف فمن قبل الفحل
If she bears a noble freeborn, then it is by the freeborn; and if it is of mixed lineage, it is from the stallion.
والهاجن: الصبية تزوج قبل بلوغها، وكذلك الصغيرة من البهائم.
And the 'hajin': a young girl married before her puberty, and likewise a young animal.
جلت الهاجن عن الولد
The young female camel has become too old for the young one.
جلت الهاجن عن الرفد
The young female camel has become too old for the large drinking bowl.
جلت العلبة عن الهاجن
The container has become too large for the young female camel.
وهى بنت اللبون يحمل عليها فتلقح ثم تنتج وهى حقة.
And she is a bint al-labun (a camel in its third year) that is bred, becomes pregnant, and then gives birth while she is a haqqa (in its fourth year).
ولا يصلح أن يفعل بها ذلك.
And it is not permissible to do that to her.
هجنة، أي جعله هجينا.
'Hajana', meaning to make it ignoble.
وتهجين الأمر أيضا: تقبيحه.
And 'tahjin' of a matter also means: making it ugly.
واهتجنت الجارية، إذا وطئت وهي صغيرة.
And the girl was 'ihtajanat', meaning she was sexually penetrated while she was young.
والمهتجنة: النخلة أول ما تلقح.
And the 'muhtajanah': the palm tree when it is first pollinated.
