And al-maknah (with kasrah on the kaf) is one of al-makn and al-maknat.
وفي الحديث: " أقروا الطير على مكناتها " ومكناتها بالضم.
And in the hadith: 'Leave the birds to their nesting places,' and 'maknātihā' (with dammah).
إنا لا نعرف للطير مكنات وإنما هي وكنات.
We do not know for birds 'maknāt'; they are only 'wakanāt' (nests).
فأما المكنات فإنما هي للضباب.
As for al-maknāt, they are specifically for the dab (lizard).
ويجوز أن يراد به على أمكنتها، أي على مواضعها التى جعلها الله لها، فلا تزجروها ولا تلتفتوا إليها، لانها لا تضر ولا تنفع، ولا تعدو ذلك إلى غيره.
And it is permissible that it is intended by 'on its maknāt', meaning on its places which Allah has made for it, so do not drive them away nor pay attention to them, because they neither harm nor benefit, and do not go beyond that to something else.
ويقال: الناس على مكناتهم، أي على استقامتهم.
And it is said: 'People are on their maknāt,' meaning on their uprightness.
أمكنت الضبة: جمعت بيضها في بطنها، فهي مكون.
The dab (lizard) became 'amkanat': it gathered its eggs in its belly, so it is 'mukawwan'.
وقال أبو زيد: أمكنت الضبة فهى ممكن، وكذلك الجرادة.
And Abu Zayd said: The dab (lizard) became 'amkanat', so it is 'mumkin', and likewise the locust.
ومعنى قول النحويين في الاسم: إنه متمكن، أي إنه معرب، كعمر وإبراهيم.
And the meaning of the grammarians' saying about a noun: 'it is mutamakkin', meaning it is inflected (mu'rab), like 'Umar and Ibrahim.
فإذا انصرف مع ذلك فهو المتمكن الأمكن، كزيد وعمرو.
And if it is fully declinable with that, then it is al-mutamakkin al-amkan, like Zayd and 'Amr.
وغير المتمكن هو المبنى، كقولك: كيف وأين.
And the non-mutamakkin is the fixed (mabni), like your saying: 'kayfa' and 'ayna'.
ومعنى قولهم في الظرف: إنه متمكن، أي إنه يستعمل مرة ظرفا ومرة اسما، كقولك جلست خلفك فتنصب، ومجلسي خلفك فترفع في موضع يصلح أن يكون ظرفا.
And the meaning of their saying about an adverb: 'it is mutamakkin', meaning it is used once as an adverb and once as a noun, like your saying 'I sat behind you' (jalastu khalfaka), so you make it accusative, and 'my seat is behind you' (majlisī khalfuka), so you make it nominative, in a position that is suitable to be an adverb.
وغير المتمكن هو الذى لا يستعمل في موضع يصلح أن يكون ظرفا إلا ظرفا، كقولك لقيته صباحا وموعدك صباحا، فتنصب فيهما ولا يجوز الرفع إذا أردت صباح يوم بعينه.
And the non-mutamakkin is that which is not used in a position suitable to be an adverb except as an adverb, like your saying 'I met him in the morning' (laqītuhu ṣabāḥan) and 'your appointment is in the morning' (maw'iduka ṣabāḥan), so you make them accusative, and it is not permissible to make them nominative if you intend a specific morning of a day.
هذا إذا عنيت بهذه الاوقات يوما بعينه.
This is if you mean by these times a specific day.
أما إذا كانت نكرة وأدخلت عليها الالف واللام تكلمت بها رفعا ونصبا وجرا.
But if it is indefinite and you introduce the definite article 'al-' to it, you speak it with nominative, accusative, and genitive.
