And it is a good opinion, because the 'wa' is a 'wa' of state, making 'asukk' a state for the first verb, meaning 'I stood striking his face'.
أي تركته مقيما عندهم، ليس من طريق الرهن، لانه لا يقال أرهنت الشئ وإنما يقال رهنته
Meaning I left him residing with them, not in the sense of pledging, because it is not said 'arhaltu al-shay' but rather 'rahantu al-shay'.
ورهن الشئ، أي دام وثبت
And 'rahina al-shay', meaning it lasted and was fixed.

وأرهنت به ولدي إرهانا: أخطرتهم به خطرا
And 'arhaltu bihi waladi irhanan': I risked my children with it, meaning I exposed them to danger.
