It is said: I smeared it with the ointment, I smear it.
وتدهن هو وادهن أيضا، على افتعل، إذا تطلى بالدهن.
And he anoints himself, and also 'adhn', in the pattern 'ifta'ala', when he applies oil.
ودهنته بالعصا: ضربته بها.
And I beat him with the stick: I struck him with it.
والدهان أيضا: المطر الضعيف، واحدها دهن بالضم.
And al-dihān is also: the weak rain, its singular is duhn (with dammah).
ودهن المطر الأرض، إذا بلها بلا يسيرا.
And the rain moistened the earth, if it barely wet it.
يقال: دهنها ولي، وهي مدهونة.
It is said: it was barely wet by it, and it is barely wet.
وقوم مدهنون: عليهم آثار النعم.
And people mudhannūn (with shaddah on the ha): upon them are the signs of blessings.
والمدهن بالضم لا غير: قارورة الدهن، وهو أحد ما جاء على مفعل مما يستعمل من الادوات.
And al-mudhann (with dammah only): the oil flask, and it is one of the forms that came on the pattern 'maf'al' from the tools that are used.
تمدهن الرجل، إذا أخذ مدهنا.
He took an oil flask, if he took an oil flask.
نشـف المدهن ويبس الجعثن.
The water pool dried up and the rocky ground became parched.
يقلب قيدودا كأن سراتها صفا مدهن قد زلقته الزحالف
He turns over rocks, as if their tops are like the surface of a water pool smoothed by sliding rocks.
والمداهنة كالمصانعة.
And al-mudāhanah is like al-muṣānaʿah (conciliation/flattery).

And al-idhān is similar to it.
ودوا لو تدهن فيدهنون
They would love that you (O Muhammad) be pliant, so they would be pliant.
وقال قوم: داهنت بمعنى واريت، وأدهنت بمعنى غششت.
And some said: dāhanatū means I concealed, and adhanatū means I deceived.
وناقة دهين: قليلة اللبن.
And a dhiīn camel: low in milk.
لسانك مبرد لا عيب فيه ودرّك درّ جاذبة دهين
Your tongue is a file with no fault, and your milk is the milk of a low-producing (camel).
وقد دهنت الناقة تدهن دهانة، عن أبى زيد.
And the she-camel produced little milk, she produces little milk, a production of little milk, according to Abu Zayd.
والدهناء: موضع ببلاد تميم، يمد ويقصر
And al-Dahnā': a place in the lands of Tamim, it can be pronounced long or short.

And from it is attributed Dahnaawi.
