ويقال: أراد الابل الموسومة.
And it is said: he meant the branded camels.
ووسم الناس توسيما: شهدوا الموسم، كما يقال في العيد: عيدوا.
And people witnessed the season (tawseeman): they attended the gathering place, just as it is said for Eid: 'Eidū'.
والميسم: المكواة، وأصل الياء واو.
And al-mayasm: the branding iron, and the origin of the ya is waw.
وإن شئت قلت في جمعه مواسم على الأصل.
And if you wish, you can say its plural is mawāsim based on the origin.
ويقال: امرأة ذات ميسم إذا كان عليها أثر الجمال.
And it is said: a woman with a mayasm if she has a mark of beauty upon her.
وفلان وسيم، أي حسن الوجه.
And so-and-so is waseem, meaning handsome of face.
وقوم وسام.
And a people of wissām (beauty).
وفلان موسوم بالخير، وقد توسمت فيه الخير، أي تفرست.
And so-and-so is marked with goodness, and I have discerned goodness in him, meaning I have perceived it.
وواسمت فلانا فوسمته، إذا غلبته بالحسن.
And I competed with so-and-so in beauty, and I surpassed him, if I overcame him in beauty.
واتسم الرجل، إذا جعل لنفسه سمة يعرف بها.
And the man adopted a mark, if he made for himself a sign by which he is known.
