منشم، بكسر الشين: اسم امرأة كانت بمكة عطارة، وكانت خزاعة وجرهم إذا أرادوا القتال تطيبوا من طيبها، وكانوا إذا فعلوا ذلك كثرت القتلى فيما بينهم.
Minsham (with kasr ash-shin): the name of a woman who was a perfumer in Mecca. Khuzā'ah and Jurhum, when they wanted to fight, would perfume themselves with her fragrance, and when they did that, the killings among them increased.
فكان يقال: " أشأم من عطر منشم ".
So it was said: 'More ill-omened than Minsham's perfume.'
