Al-'aqm and al-'aqmah (with fatḥah) are a type of weaving, and likewise al-'uqmah (with kasrah).

Al-Kisā'ī said: a 'ma'qūmah' womb, meaning closed and not giving birth.

And al-i'tiqām: is to dig a well, and when it nears the water source, dig a small well to the extent of finding the taste of water; if it is fresh, dig the rest of it.
قال العجاج يصف ثورا: إذا انتحى معتقما أو لجفا
Al-'Ajjāj said, describing a bull: 'When it digs deeply or into hard ground.'
وقول الشاعر: وماء آجن الجمات قفر تعقم في جوانبه السباع
And the poet's saying: 'And stagnant water in desolate pools, beasts dig around its sides.'
أي تحتفر، ويقال تردد.
Meaning they dig, and it is also said they frequent it.
وعاقمت فلانا، إذا خاصمته.
And 'āqamtu fulānan, if you dispute with him.
