Its nose ring leading it, guiding it so it would go.
فقلت أزدفنى فقال مرحبا
So I said, 'Let me ride behind you,' and he said, 'Welcome.'
أراد " زامها " فحرك الهمزة ضرورة، لاجتماع الساكنين، كما جاء في الشعر اسوأدت، بمعنى اسوادت.
He intended 'zaamaha' (to lead it), so he moved the hamza out of necessity, due to the meeting of two silent letters, as in poetry 'isawaddat' meaning 'isawwadat' (to become black).
و زم، أي تقدم في السير.
And 'zam' (he advanced), meaning he moved forward in pace.
و زم بأنفه، أي تكبر، فهو زام.
And he 'zam' with his nose, meaning he was arrogant, so he is 'zaam'.
وقوم زمم، أي شمخ بأنوفهم من الكبر.
And a people 'zumam', meaning they held their noses high from arrogance.
شداخة تفذغ هام الزمم
A swift one that crushes the heads of the arrogant.
و زمّم الجمال، شدّد للكثرة.
And 'zamama' the camels, meaning he tightened them greatly due to their abundance.
ويقال: أخذ الذئب سخلة فذهب بها زاما رأسه، أي رافعا.
And it is said: the wolf took a lamb and went off with it 'zaaman' its head, meaning holding its head high.
وقد زمّها الذئب وازددمها، بمعنى.
And the wolf 'zam' it and 'izdamma' it, meaning the same.
والزمزمة: صوت الرعد، عن أبي زيد.

ودارى من داره زمم، أي قريب.
And the dwelling near his dwelling was 'zumam', meaning close.
لا والذي وجهي زمم بيته ما كان كذا وكذا، أي تجاهه وتلقاءه.
By Him whose face is 'zumam' to his house, it was not so and so, meaning facing it and towards it.
وأمر نبى فلان زمم، أي قصد كما يقال أمم.
And the affair of so-and-so's prophet was 'zumam', meaning intended, as one says 'amam' (intended).
ونظرة عين على غرة محلّ الخليط بصحراء زم
And a glance of an eye upon the sudden appearance of the companions in the desert of Zam.
يقول: ما كان هواها إلا عقوبة.
He says: its desire was nothing but a punishment.
