And age broke it down (ḥaṭimathu) with fatḥ, a breaking down.
وَالحُطْمَةُ، عَلَى وَزْنِ فُعْلَةٍ، مِنْ أَسْمَاءِ النَّارِ، لِأَنَّهَا تَحْطِمُ مَا تَلْقَى.
And al-ḥuṭmah, on the pattern of fuʿlah, is one of the names of Fire, because it shatters whatever it encounters.
وَيُقَالُ أَيْضًا رَجُلٌ حُطَمَةٌ، لِلْكَثِيرِ الأَكْلِ وَرَجُلٌ حُطَمٌ وَحُطَمَةٌ أَيْضًا، إِذَا كَانَ قَلِيلَ الرَّحْمَةِ لِلْمَاشِيَةِ يَهْشِمُ بَعْضَهَا بِبَعْضٍ.
And it is also said: a man is ḥuṭamah, for one who eats a lot, and a man is ḥuṭam and ḥuṭamah also, if he has little mercy for livestock, crushing some of them against each other.
قَدْ لَفَّهَا اللَّيْلُ بِسَوَّاقٍ حُطَمٍ.
The night enveloped them with a harsh driver.
وَيُقَالُ لِلْعَكَرَةِ مِنَ الإِبِلِ حُطْمَةٌ، لِأَنَّهَا تَحْطِمُ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ.
And a destructive herd of camels is called ḥuṭmah, because it destroys everything.
الحُطَيْمُ: الجِدَارُ. يَعْنِي جِدَارَ حِجْرِ الكَعْبَةِ.

وَالحُطَامُ: مَا تكسَّرَ مِنَ اليَبِيسِ.
