وآدم عليه السلام: أبو البشر، وأصله بهمزتين، لانه أفعل، إلا أنهم لينوا الثانية، فإذا احتجت إلى تحريكها جعلتها واوا وقلت أوادم في الجمع، لانه ليس لها أصل في الياء معروف، فجعلت الغالب عليها الواو، عن الاخفش.

And Adam, peace be upon him: the father of humanity, and its origin is with two hamzas, because it is on the pattern 'af'al', except that they softened the second one. So if you need to vocalize it, you make it a waw and say 'awādim for the plural, because it has no known origin in ya, so the waw became dominant over it, according to Al-Akhfash.

قال الاصمعي: والادم من الظباء بيض تعلوهن جدد، فيهن غبرة، تسكن الجبال.

Al-Asma'i said: And al-adam among antelopes are white ones with streaks on them, having a dusty color, inhabiting the mountains.

قال: وهي على ألوان الجبال. يقال ظبية أدماء.

He said: And they are colored like the mountains. A spotted female antelope is called adma'.

وقد جاء في شعر ذى الرمة أدمانة، قال: أقول للركب لما أعرضت أصلا أدمانة لم تربيها الاجاليد

And 'admanah' has appeared in the poetry of Dhu al-Rummah, he said: I say to the riders when it turned away completely, a spotted one not raised by the harsh seasons.

And al-ādamah in camels: extreme whiteness. It is said: a very white camel and a very white female camel, and the plural is adm.

فإن أهجه يضجر كما ضجر بازل من الادم دبرت صفحتاه وغاربه

For if he is provoked, he gets agitated, like a young camel agitated from the 'adam' (white patches), his flanks and shoulders having become prominent.

تقول منه: أدم الخبز باللحم يآدمه، بالكسر.

And fair women are only loved by someone who is loved; meaning they only love someone who is loved.
