والقيل: ملك من ملوك حمير دون الملك الأعظم، والمرأة قيلة، وأصله قيل بالتشديد، كأنه الذي له قول، أي ينفذ قوله، والجمع أقوال وأقيال أيضا، ومن جمعه على أقيال لم يجعل الواحد منه مشددا.
And 'al-qayl': a king from the kings of Himyar, below the great king, and the woman is 'qaylah'. Its origin is 'qayl' with shadda, as if he is one whose word is effective, meaning his word is executed. The plural is 'aqwal' and also 'aqyal'. And whoever pluralizes it as 'aqyal' does not make the singular with shadda.

And 'al-qawl': is the plural of 'qa'il' (speaker), like 'raki'' (one who bows) and 'rukk' (those who bow).

Al-qal: the wooden beam with which the pot is struck.
ويقال: قولتني ما لم أقل، وأقولتني ما لم أقل، أي ادعيته على.
And it is said: 'qawwaltani ma lam aqul' (you attributed to me what I did not say), and 'aqwaltani ma lam aqul', meaning you falsely claimed it against me.
وتقول عليه، أي كذب عليه.
And 'taqawwala 'alayhi', meaning he lied about him.
واقتال عليه: تحكم.
And 'iqtala 'alayhi': he usurped or imposed his will.
ومنزلة في دار صدق وغبطة وما اقتال من حكم علي طبيب
And a dwelling in a place of truth and joy, and no physician could impose a cure upon me.
وقاولته في أمره وتقاولنا، أي تفاوضنا.
And I negotiated with him concerning his affair, and we negotiated, meaning we conferred.
وإن الله نافلة تقاه ولا يقتالها إلا السعيد أي: ولا يقولها.
