وتعطل الرجل، إذا بقي لا عمل له.
And a man becomes ta'aṭṭala, if he remains without work.
والأعطال: الرجال الذين لا سلاح معهم.
And al-a'ṭāl: men who have no weapons with them.
والتعطيل: التفريغ.
And al-ta'ṭīl: emptying.
وبئر معطلة، لبيود أهلها
And an abandoned well, because its inhabitants have left.
" عطلوها " أي انزعوا حليها.
"Strip her (of her adornments)" meaning remove her jewelry.
والمعطل: الموات من الأرض.
And al-mu'aṭṭal: barren land.
وإبل معطلة: لا راعى لها.
And unguarded camels: without a herdsman.
والعيطل من النساء: الطويلة العنق، وكذلك من النوق والفرس.
And al-'ayṭal among women: the long-necked, and likewise among she-camels and horses.
فهما اسمان لناقة واحدة.
So they are two names for one she-camel.
