يقال: ما هذا الشلل في ثوبك؟
It is said: What is this mark on your garment?
والشلل: فساد في اليد
And 'ash-shalal' is a defect in the hand.
شلت يمينه تشل بالفتح، وأشلها الله
His right hand became paralyzed, it becomes paralyzed with the fath, and may God paralyze it.
يقال في الدعاء: لا تشلل يدك ولا تكلل!
It is said in supplication: May your hand not be paralyzed, nor your hand become weak!
وقد شللت يا رجل بالكسر تشل شللا، أي صرت أشل
And you have become paralyzed, O man, with the kasr, you become paralyzed, meaning you have become paralyzed.
والمرأة شلاء
And the woman is 'ash-shalā'.
ويقال لمن أجاد الرمي أو الطعن: لا شللا ولا عمى!
And it is said to one who excels in throwing or thrusting: May you not be paralyzed nor blind!
ولا شل عشرك! أي أصابعك
And may your fingers not be paralyzed! Meaning your fingers.
مهر أبى الحبحاب لا تشلى
The colt of Abu al-Habhab does not become paralyzed.
وشلشلت الماء، أي قطرته، فهو مشلشل
And I dripped the water, meaning I let it drip, so it is 'mushalshal'.

ومع ذو شلشل وشلشال، أي ذو قطران

الشليل: الغلالة التي تحت الدرع من ثوب أو غيره
'Ash-shalil' is the undergarment that is beneath the armor, made of cloth or otherwise.
وربما كانت درعا قصيرة تحت العليا، والجمع الأشلة
And sometimes it was a short tunic beneath the outer one, and the plural is 'al-ashillah'.
وجئنا بها شهباء ذات أشلة لها عارض فيه المنية تلمع
And we brought her, white, with undergarments, having a cloud in which death gleams.

And 'ash-shillah' with the damma is the intention, and the distant matter.
وقلت تجنبن سخط ابن عم ومطلب شلة وهي الطروح
And I said, 'Avoid the displeasure of a cousin and a distant intention, which is the abandoned one.'
