And Al-Asma'i used to say: 'yatakhaununa' with a noon, meaning he attends to us.
وربما قالوا: تخولت الريح الارض، إذا تعهدتها.
And sometimes they say: the wind tended to the land, meaning it affected it.
وتخولت في فلان خالا من الخير، أي أخلت وتوسمت.
And I perceived in so-and-so a sign of goodness, meaning I discerned and observed it.
وخول الرجل: حشمه، الواحد خائل.
And the khawl of a man: his servants, the singular is khā'il.
قال الفراء: هو جمع خائل، وهو الراعي.
Al-Farra' said: it is the plural of khā'il, which is the shepherd.
وقال غيره: هو مأخوذ من التخويل، وهو التمليك.
And others said: it is derived from al-takhwīl, which is bestowing ownership.
ويقال: خال بين الخؤولة.
And it is said: khāla bayna al-khu'ūlah (there was maternal unclehood between them).
وبيني وبين فلان خؤولة.
And between me and so-and-so is a maternal uncle relationship.
وتقول: استخل خالا غير خالك، واستخول خالا عير خالك، أي اتخذ.
And you say: istakhil khālan ghayra khālik, and istakhawwil khālan ghayra khālik, meaning take as.
هنالك إن يستخولوا المال يخولوا
