وأهلة ود قد تبريت ودهم وأبليتهم في الحمد جهدي ونائلي

And crescent moons of affection, whose affection I have sought and for whom I have exerted my utmost effort in praise and bounty.

أي رب من هو أهل للود قد تعرضت له وبذلت له في ذلك طاقتي من نائلي.

O Lord, whoever is worthy of affection, I have approached him and exerted my full capacity in bounty towards him.

والجمع أهلات، وأهلات، وأهال، زادوا فيه الياء على غير قياس، كما جمعوا ليلا على ليال.

And the plural is 'ahlāt', 'ahlāt', and 'ahāl', they added the 'ya' to it irregularly, just as they pluralized 'layl' to 'layāl'.

وأنشد الأخفش: وبلدة ما الإنس من آهالها

And Al-Akhfash recited: And a land whose inhabitants are not human.

ومنزل آهل، أي به أهله.

And an inhabited dwelling, meaning it has its people.

والمستأهل: الذي يأخذ الإهالة، أو يأكلها.

And 'al-musta'hil': is he who takes the fat, or eats it.

وتقول: فلان أهل لكذا، ولا تقل: مستأهل، والعامة تقوله.

And you say: 'So-and-so is worthy of such-and-such', and do not say: 'musta'hil', although the common people say it.

وقد أهل فلان يأهل ويأهل أهولا، أي تزوج، وكذلك تأهل.

And so-and-so got married, he marries and marries, meaning he got married, and likewise 'ta'ahala'.

أهلت بالرجل، إذا آنست به.

I became accustomed to the man, if I felt familiar with him.

ومرحبا وأهلا، أي أتيت سعة وأتيت أهلا، فاستأنس ولا تستوحش.

And 'marhaban wa ahlan', meaning you have come to abundance and you have come to family, so feel at home and do not be afraid.

آهلك الله في الجنة إيهالا، أي أدخلكها وزوجك فيها.

May Allah admit you into Paradise with 'īhālan', meaning He enters you into it and marries you therein.

وأهلك الله للخير تأهيلا.

And may Allah prepare you for good with 'ta'hīlan'.
