وكان يقال لاسماء بنت أبى بكر رضى الله عنه " ذات الناطقين ".

And Asma bint Abi Bakr, may God be pleased with her, was called 'Dhat al-Natiqin' (She of the Two Sashes).

وذات النطاق أيضا: اسم أكمة لهم.

And Dhat al-Nitaq is also: the name of a hillock belonging to them.

وقد انتطقت المرأة، أي لبست النطاق.

And the woman has put on the nitaq, meaning she wore the sash.

وانتطق الرجل، أي لبس المنطق، وهو كل ما شددت به وسطك.

And the man has put on the mantiq, meaning he wore whatever you tie around your waist.

وفي المثل: " من يطل هن أبيه ينتطق به "، أي من كثر بنو أبيه يتقوى بهم.

And in the proverb: 'He who has many paternal uncles girds himself with them,' meaning whoever has many paternal relatives, he strengthens himself with them.

والمنطقة معروفة، اسم لها خاصة.

And al-mintaqah is known, a specific name for it.

تقول منه: نطقت الرجل تنطيقا فتنطق، أي شدها في وسطه.

You say from it: I girded the man with a girding, and he became girded, meaning he tied it around his waist.

ومننه قولهم: جبل أشم منطق، لأن السحاب لا يبلغ أعلاه.

And from it is their saying: a lofty, girded mountain, because the clouds do not reach its summit.

وجاء فلان منتطقا فرسه، إذا جنبه ولم يركبه.

And so-and-so came riding his horse in a girded manner, meaning he led it by its side and did not ride it.

قال الشاعر (1) : وأبرح ما أدام الله قومي على الأعداء منتطقا مجيدا

The poet said: And may God perpetuate my people's strength against the enemies, riding in a glorious girded manner.

يقول: لا أزال أجنب فرسي جوادا.

He says: I will continue to lead my fine horse by its side.

ويقال: إنه أراد قولا يستجاد في الثناء على قومي.

And it is said: he intended a saying that is made excellent in praise of my people.

والناطقة: الخاصرة.

And al-natiqah: the flank.
