الضرب الذي يسمع له صوت، كذلك التصفيق.
A strike that makes a sound, likewise clapping.
يقال: صفقته الريح وصفقته.
It is said: the wind struck it and struck it.
والتصفيق باليد: التصويت بها،
And clapping with the hand: making a sound with it,
وصفقت له بالبيع والبيعة صفقا، أي ضربت يدي على يده
And I struck hands with him in selling and pledging allegiance, meaning I struck my hand on his hand
ويقال: ربحت صفقتك للشراء، وصفقة رابحة وصفقة خاسرة.
And it is said: your deal for buying was profitable, and a profitable deal and a losing deal.
وتصافق القوم عند البيعة.
And the people struck hands with each other at the time of pledging allegiance.
والصفق: الرد والصرف، وقد صفقته فانصفق.
And al-ṣafq: the repelling and turning away, and I repelled it and it was repelled.
وصفق عينه، أي ردها وغمضها.
And he closed his eye, meaning he turned it back and shut it.
وصفقت الباب: رددته.
And I closed the door: I turned it back.
متكئا تصفق أبوابه يسعى عليه العبد بالكوب
Leaning back, his doors are closed as the servant rushes to him with the cup
وكذلك أصفقت الباب.
And likewise I closed the door.
أصفقوا على كذا، أي أطبقوا عليه،
They agreed upon such-and-such, meaning they were unanimous about it,
أثيبي أخا ضارورة أصفق العدا عليه وقلت في الصديق أواصره
Respond to a desperate brother; the enemies have agreed upon him, and I said about the friend, his bonds
وصفقت العود، إذا حركت أوتاره، فاصطفق.
And I struck the lute, when I moved its strings, so it vibrated.
ويم كظل الرمح قصر طوله دم الزق عنا واصطفاق المزاهر
And like the shadow of a spear, its length shortened, the wine from the wineskin is gone from us, and the strumming of lutes
والريح تصفق الأشجار فتصطفق، أي تضطرب.
And the wind strikes the trees, so they are agitated, meaning they are disturbed.
وأصفقت يده بكذا، أي صادفته ووافقته.
And his hand encountered such-and-such, meaning he met it and it agreed with him.
حتى إذا طرح النصيب وأصفقت يده بجلدة ضرعها وحوارها
Until when the lot was cast and his hand met the udder of a ewe with its lamb
وأصفقت الغنم، إذا لم تحلبها في اليوم إلا مرة.
And the sheep were milked once, if they were not milked in the day except once.
وثوب صفيق ووجه صفيق بين: الصفاقة.
And a thick garment and a brazen face: thickness/impudence.
الصفاق: الجلد الذي عليه الشعر.
Al-ṣifāq: the skin upon which is the hair.
لطمن بترس شديد الصفاق من خشب الجوز لم يثقب
They struck it with a shield of strong hide made of walnut wood, not pierced
يقول ذلك الموضع منه كأنه ترس، وهو شديد الصفاق.
He means that part of it is like a shield, and it is of strong hide.
والصفق والصفق: الناحية.
And al-ṣafq and al-ṣafq: the side.
وصفق الجبل: صفحه وناحيته.
And the side of the mountain: its face and its region.
وما نطفة في رأس نيق تمنعت بعنقاء من صعب حمتها صفوقها
And no drop on the peak of a high place was protected by a bird from the difficult terrain, its steepness protecting it
والصفق بالتحريك: الماء الذي يصب في القربة الجديدة فيحرك فيها فيصفر، يقال: وردنا ماء كأنه صفق.
And al-ṣafq (with vowelization): the water that is poured into a new waterskin and agitated in it until it is seasoned; it is said: we arrived at water that was like ṣafq.
وتصفيق الشراب: أن تحوله من إناء إلى إناء.
And tasfīq of a drink: transferring it from one vessel to another.
وتصفيق الابل: أن تحولها من مرعى قد رعته إلى مكان فيه مرعى، ومنه قول الراجز
And tasfīq of camels: moving them from a pasture they have grazed to a place with pasture, and from this is the saying of the rajaz poet
وزلل النية والتصفيق
And the slips of intention and the moving (of camels).
