ولا تقل يتصدق، والعامة تقوله، وإنما المتصدق الذي يعطى.
And do not say 'yatasaddaq' (he gives alms, referring to the recipient), although the common people say it; rather, Al-Mutasaddiq is he who gives.
وقوله تعالى: {إن المصدقين والمصدقات} بتشديد الصاد، أصله المتصدقين فقلبت التاء صادا وأدغمت في مثلها.
And His saying, the Almighty: {Indeed, the men who give charity and the women who give charity}, with a shadda on the sad, its origin is 'al-mutasaddiqin', so the taa was changed to a sad and assimilated into its like.
والصداقة والمصادقة: المخالة.
And friendship and mutual friendship: camaraderie.
والرجل صديق والأنثى صديقة والجمع أصدقاء، وقد يقال للواحد والجمع والمؤنث صديق.

نصبن الهوى ثم ارتمين قلوبنا بأعين أعداء وهن صديق
They set up desire, then they threw our hearts with the eyes of enemies, though they are friends
ويقال: فلان صديقى، أي أخص أصدقائى، وإنما يصغر على جهة المدح، كقول حباب بن المنذر: " أنا جذيلها المحكك، وعذيقها المرجب ".
And it is said: 'So-and-so is my little friend,' meaning my most special friend, and the diminutive is used for praise, like the saying of Hubab ibn al-Mundhir: 'I am its well-rubbed little branch, and its welcomed little seedling.'
والصديق، مثال الفسيق: الدائم التصديق، ويكون الذي يصدق قوله بالعمل.
And Al-Siddiq, like Al-Fasiq: the one of constant confirmation, and it can be one whose word is confirmed by action.
والصدق، بالفتح: الصلب من الرماح، ويقال المستوي.
And Al-Saduq, with fatha: the solid one of spears, and it is said the straight one.
ويقال أيضا: رجل صدق اللقاء، وصدق النظر، وقوم صدق بالضم، مثل فرس ورد وأفراس ورد، وجون وجون.
And it is also said: a man true in encounter, and true in sight, and people true (with damma), like a horse 'ward' and horses 'ward', and 'jawun' and 'jawun'.
وهذا مصداق هذا، أي ما يصدقه.
And this is a confirmation of that, meaning what validates it.
ويقال للرجل الشجاع والفرس الجواد: إنه لذو مصدق بالفتح، أي صادق الحملة وصادق الجرى، كأنه ذو صدق فيما يعدك من ذلك.
And it is said of the brave man and the noble horse: he is truly one who confirms with fatha, meaning true in charge and true in running, as if he has truth in what he promises you of that.
إذا ما استحمت أرضه من سمائه جرى وهو مودوع وواعد مصدق
When its land is drenched by its sky, it runs as if left alone, and a promising one that confirms.
يقول: إذا ابتلت حوافره من عرق أعاليه جرى وهو متروك لا يضرب ولا يزجر، ويصدقك فيما يعدك من البلوغ إلى الغاية.
He says: when its hooves are wet from the sweat of its upper parts, it runs as if left alone, not beaten or urged, and it confirms to you what it promises of reaching the goal.
والصدقة: ما تصدقت به على الفقراء.
And Al-Sadaqah: what you give as charity to the poor.
والصداق والصداق: مهر المرأة، وكذلك الصدقة، ومنه قوله تعالى: {وآتوا النساء صدقاتهن نحلة} ، والصدقة مثله، بالضم وتسكين الدال.
And Al-Sadaq and Al-Sidaq: the dowry of the woman, and likewise Al-Sadaqah, and from this is His saying, the Almighty: {And give the women [as] their due [dowry] by gift}, and Al-Sadaqah is similar, with damma and a sukun on the dal.
وقد أصدقت المرأة، إذا سميت لها صداقا: قال يعقوب: هي الصندوق بالصاد، والجمع الصناديق.
And a woman has been given a dowry, if a dowry is specified for her: Ya'qub said: it is the chest (al-sunduq) with a sad, and the plural is al-sanadiq.
