And tadnīq is like tarnīq, which is prolonging the gaze at a thing.
يُقَالُ دَنَقَ إِلَيْهِ النَّظَرُ وَرَنَقَ.
It is said: the gaze was directed towards it and lingered.
وكذلك النَّظَرُ الضَّعِيْف.
And likewise, the weak gaze.
وتَدْنِيْقُ الشَّمْسِ لِلْغُرُوبِ: دُنُوُّهَا.
And the sun's approaching sunset: its nearing.
وتَدْنِيْقُ العَيْنِ: غُؤُوْرُهَا.
And the sinking of the eye: its becoming deep-set.
