And a dark bay horse, not artificially colored, but like the color of the red dye with which the leather is stained.
وشراب صرف، أي بحت غير ممزوج
And pure drink, meaning undiluted, unmixed.

And the creaking of the well-pulley: its sound when drawing water.

And the Saylahun are brought to it, and beyond them is Sarifun in its rivers and Al-Khwarinq.
ما للجمال مشيها وئيدا أجند لا يحملن أم حديدا أم صرفانا باردا شديدا
What is the matter with the camels' slow gait? Will they not carry iron, or cold, hard dates?
قال أبو عبيدة: لم يكن يهدى لها شئ كان أحب إليها من التمر الصرفان
Abu Ubaidah said: Nothing was presented to her that was more beloved to her than the Sarfan dates.
قال ms0975 (1): قد كنت خراجا ولوجا صيرفا لم تلتحصنى حيص بيص لحاص
He said: You were indeed outgoing and incoming, a manager, not trapped in confusion.
ولساناً صيرفياً صارما كحسام السيف ما مس قطع
And an eloquent, sharp tongue, like the edge of a sword, it cuts whatever it touches.
نفي الدراهم تنقاد الصياريف
The rejection of dirhams leads the money changers.
يقال: صرفت الدراهم بالد نانير
It is said: I exchanged the dirhams for dinars.
وبين الدرهمين صرف، أي فضل لجودة فضة أحدهما
And between the two dirhams there is a difference, meaning an advantage due to the quality of silver in one of them.
من طلب صرف الحديث
Whoever seeks to embellish speech.
قال أبو عبيد: صرف الحديث: تزيينه بالزيادة فيه
Abu Ubaid said: Embellishing speech means adorning it with additions.
وصرفت الرجل عني فانصرف
And I turned the man away from me, so he departed.

Without any recklessness or seeking of gain.
واستصرفت الله المكاره
And I sought to avert hardships from God.
