وَقَالَ أَبُو يُوسُفَ: الصَّدَفُ أَنْ يَمِيلَ خُفُّ الْبَعِيرِ مِنَ الْيَدِ أَوِ الْمِرْجَلِ إِلَى الْجَانِبِ الْوَحْشِيِّ.
Abu Yusuf said: 'As-sadaf' is when a camel's hoof inclines from the side or the heel towards the outer side.
فَإِنْ مَالَ إِلَى الْإِنْسِيِّ فَهُوَ أَقْفَدُ.
But if it inclines towards the inner side, it is 'aqfad'.
وَالصَّدَفُ وَالصَّدَفُ: مِنْقَطَعُ الْجَبَلِ الْمُرْتَفِعِ، وَقُرِئَ بِهِمَا قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: {بَيْنَ الصَّدَفَيْنِ}.
And 'as-sadaf' and 'as-sadaf' refer to the edge of a high mountain; and it was recited in the verse of Allah Almighty: 'between the two high places'.
وَقَالَ الْأَصْمَعِيُّ: الصَّدَفُ: كُلُّ شَيْءٍ مُرْتَفِعٍ، مِثْلُ الْهَدَفِ.
Al-Asma'i said: 'As-sadaf' is anything elevated, like a target.
وَصَادَفْتُ فُلَانًا: وَجَدْتُهُ.
And I encountered so-and-so: meaning I found him.
وَالصَّوَادِفُ: الْإِبِلُ الَّتِي تَجِدُ الْإِبِلَ عَلَى الْحَوْضِ فَتَقِفُ عِنْدَ أَعْجَازِهَا تَنْتَظِرُ انْصِرَافَ الشَّارِبَةِ لَتَدْخُلَ هِيَ.
And 'as-sawadaf' are the camels that find other camels at the watering hole and stand behind their hindquarters, waiting for the drinkers to finish so they can enter.
النَّاظِرَاتُ الْعَقِبَ الصَّوَادِفُ
The ones looking at the rear, the waiting ones.
