And a khassif battalion, which is the color of iron. It is said: 'khassaftu min wara'iha bikhaalin,' meaning 'I followed behind it with horses.' For this reason, the 'ta' marbuta' was not added, because it is in the passive sense (maf'ul). If it were for the color of iron, they would have said 'khassifah' because it is in the active sense (fa'ilah).

And it is said: Al-khusuf are those that give birth a month after the year from their stable, and al-jarur two months later.
وفى المثل: " هو أجرأ من خاصى خصاف " وذلك أن بعض الملوك طلبه من صاحبه ليستفحله، فمنعه إياه وخصاه.
And in the proverb: 'He is braver than Khassaf's testicles.' This is because one of the kings asked for it from his companion to make him potent, but he refused him and castrated him.
