And the 'Alliances' mentioned in Zuhayr's poetry are Banu Asad and Ghatafan, because they allied for mutual support.
والاحلاف أيضا: قوم من ثقيف، لان ثقيفا فرقتان: بنو مالك، والاحلاف
And 'Al-Ahlaf' also refers to a group from Thaqif, because Thaqif was divided into two factions: Banu Malik and Al-Ahlaf.

And Banu Asad and Tayyi' are called 'the two allies'.

And a man 'halif al-lisān' is one who has a sharp, eloquent tongue.
وقولهم " حضار والوزن محلفان "، وهما نجمان يطلعان قبل سهيل فيظن الناس بكل واحد منهما أنه سهيل، فيحلف واحد أنه سهيل ويحلف آخر أنه ليس به
And their saying 'Hudhar and al-Wazn are muḥallifān' refers to two stars that appear before Suhail, and people mistake each one for Suhail, so one swears it is Suhail and another swears it is not.
كميت غير محلفة ولكن كلون الصرف عل به الأديم
A dark bay horse, not one whose color is doubted, but rather like the color of saffron dyed onto leather.
يقول: هي خالصة اللون لا يحلف عليها أنها ليست كذلك
He means: it is pure in color, and one would not swear that it is otherwise.
والحلفاء: نبت في الماء
And al-Hulfa' is a plant in the water.
واحدتها حلفة مثل قصبة وطرفة
Its singular is halfah, like qasabah (reed) and tarfah (tamarix).
وقال الاصمعي: حلفة بكسر اللام
