And it is said: 'Where did they leave their burdens?'
والوضيعة أيضا: نحو وضائع كسرى، كان ينقل قوما من أرض فيسكنهم أرضا أخرى، وهم الشحن والمسالح.
And the burden (الوضيعة) is also: like the exiles of Kisra, who used to move people from one land and settle them in another, and they were the envoys and the border guards.
والوضيع: أن يؤخذ التمر قبل أن يلبس فيوضع في الجرار.
And the unripe dates (الوضيع): is when dates are taken before they ripen and are placed in jars.
وتقول: وضعت عند فلان وضيعا، أي استودعته وديعة.
And you say: 'I placed with so-and-so a deposit' (وضيعا), meaning 'I entrusted him with a deposit'.
والوضيع أيضا: الدنئ من الناس.
And the base person (الوضيع) is also: the ignoble among people.
ويقال: في حسبه ضعة وضعة، والهاء عوض من الواو الذاهبة من أوله.
And it is said: 'In his lineage is lowliness' (ضعة, ضعة), and the 'ha' is a substitute for the 'waw' that has gone from its beginning.
المواضعة: المراهنة.
The betting (المواضعة): is wagering.
وواضعته في الأمر، إذا وافقته فيه على شئ.
And I agreed with him in the matter (واضعته), if you agreed with him on something.
يقال: ناقة واضعة، للتي ترعاها، ونوق واضعات.
It is said: 'A camel is grazing' (واضعة), referring to one that grazes, and 'camels are grazing' (واضعات).
قال أبو زيد: إن رعت الحمض حول الماء ولم تبرح قيل: وضعت تضع وضيعة، فهى واضعة، قال: وكذلك وضعتها أنا، وهي موضوعة، يتعدى ولا يتعدى.
Abu Zayd said: If it grazes on saltwort around water and does not leave, it is said: 'It grazed' (وضعت تضع), 'it is grazing' (وضيعة), 'it is a grazing one' (فهى واضعة). He said: 'And likewise I placed it' (وضعتها أنا), and 'it is placed' (وهي موضوعة), it is transitive and intransitive.
وهؤلاء أصحاب الوضيعة، أي أصحاب حمض مقيمون فيه.
And these are the owners of the permanent pasture (الوضيعة), meaning owners of saltwort in which they reside.
ووضعت المرأة خمارها وامرأة واضع، أي لا خمار عليها.
And the woman removed her veil (وضعت) and a woman without a veil (واضع), meaning no veil is upon her.
وضعت المرأة وضعا بالفتح، أي ولدت.

She became pregnant (وضعت وضعا) with damma, meaning she conceived at the end of her purity period before the onset of menstruation, so she is pregnant (فهي واضع), according to Ibn al-Sikkit. It is said: 'His mother conceived him' (ما حملته أمه) with (وضعا) and also (تضعا) and (تضعا).
تقول والجردان فيها مكتنع * أما تخاف حبلا على تضع (2) *
She says, while the locusts are covering it: 'Do you not fear pregnancy from conception?'
ووضع البعير وغيره، أي أسرع في سيره.
And the camel and others quickened their pace (وضع), meaning they sped up their travel.
وبعير حسن الموضوع، قال طرفة: موضوعها زول ومرفوعها * كمر صوب (2) لجب وسط ريح *
And a camel of good pace (الموضوع), Tarafah said: Its pace is swift and its lift is like a heavy downpour in the midst of wind.
وأنشد أبو عمرو: إن دليما قد ألاح من أبى * وقال (3) أنزلنى فلا إيضاع بي ms0920 * أي لا أقدر على أن أسير.
And Abu Amr recited: 'Indeed, Dalima has appeared from the mountain. And he said: 'Set me down, for I cannot speed up' (فلا إيضاع بي), meaning 'I am unable to travel'.
يقال: وضع الرجل في تجارته وأوضع، على ما لم يسم فاعله، وضعا فيهما، أي خسر.
It is said: 'The man lost in his trade' (وضع وأوضع), with an unknown subject, 'a loss in both' (وضعا), meaning he incurred a loss.
يقال: وضعت في تجارتك فأنت موضوع فيها.
It is said: 'You lost in your trade' (وضعت), and 'you are one who has lost' (فأنت موضوع فيها).
ووضع الرجل بالضم يوضع ضعة وضعة، أي صار وضيعا.
And the man became lowly' (وضع بالضم يوضع), 'lowliness' (ضعة, ضعة), meaning he became base.
ووضع منه فلان، أي حط من درجته.
And so-and-so diminished him' (وضع منه), meaning he lowered his rank.
والتواضع: التذلل.
And humility (التواضع): is submissiveness.
والاتضاع: أن تخفض رأس البعير لتضع قدمك على عنقه فتركب.
And lowering the camel's head (الاتضاع): is to lower the camel's head so you can place your foot on its neck and mount.
إذا اتضعونا (1) كارهين لبيعة * أناخوا لأخرى والأزمة تجذب *
When they made us humble (اتضعونا) unwillingly for allegiance, they knelt for another, and the reins pulled.
والتوضيع: خياطة الجبة بعد وضع القطن.
And the sewing of the robe (التوضيع): is sewing the robe after placing the cotton.
ورجل موضع، أي مطرح ليس بمستحكم الخلق.
And a man (موضع) is one who is poorly made, not firmly constructed.
