وزعت الجيش، إذا حبست أولهم على آخرهم.

فهم يوزعون
So they are being organized/restrained.
وإنما سموا الكلب وازعا لأنه يكف الذئب عن الغنم.
And the dog is only called a wāziʿ because it restrains the wolf from the sheep.
والتوزيع: القسمة والتفريق.

ويقال: توزعوه فيما بينهم، أي تقسموه.
And it is said: they divided it among themselves, meaning they shared it.
وأوزعت الناقة ببولها، إذا رمت به رميا وقطعته.
And the she-camel expelled her urine forcefully, when she expelled it with force and cut it off.
بها أوزاع من الناس، أي جماعات.
There are groups of people with her, meaning multitudes.
والاوزاع: بطن من همدان، ومنهم الاوزاعي.
And al-Awzāʿ: is a clan of Hamdan, and among them is al-Awzāʿī.
