And he suffered jad'un (with kasra) jad'an.
وأجدعته، إذا أسأت غذاه.
And I nourished him poorly, if you provided him with bad nourishment.
ووجدع: السنة الشديدة التى تجدع بالمال، أي تذهب به.
And Judac: the severe year that depletes wealth, meaning it takes it away.
والمجدع من النبت: ما أكل أعلاه.
And al-majda' from the plant: what its top has been eaten.
وكلأ جداع بالضم، أي دو.
And fodder jida'un (with damma), meaning abundant.
وجدعه تجديعا، أي قال له: جدعا لك!
And he said to him tajdi'an, meaning he said to him: Jad'an lak! (Curse you!)
وحمار مجدع، أي مقطوع الاذن.

فإن الاخفش يقول: أراد الذى يجدع، كما تقول: هو اليضربك، تريد هو الذى يضربك، وهو من أبيات الكتاب (2) .
And Al-Akhfash says: He intended 'the one who cuts off', just as you say: 'He is the one who strikes you', meaning 'He is the one who strikes you', and it is from the verses of the book.
والجنادع: الاحناش، ويقال هي جنادب تكون في جحرة اليرابيع والضباب، يخرجن إذا دنا الحافر من قعر الجحر.
And al-janada'i: the small creatures, and it is said they are small insects that are in the burrows of jerboas and foxes, emerging when the hoof approaches the bottom of the burrow.
ومننه قيل: رأيت جنادع الشر، أي أوائله، الواحدة جندعة، وهو ما دب من الشر.
And from it is said: I saw the janada'i of evil, meaning its beginnings, the singular is janda'ah, which is what creeps of evil.
وذات الجنادع: الداهية.
And Dhat al-janada'i: the calamity.
