وأنا أظنه " وتعظعظي " بضم الناء، أي لا يكن منك أمر بالصلاح وأن تفسدي أنت في نفسك، كما قال (1) :
And I think it is 'and you twist yourself' with the damma on the 'nun', meaning: let there not be from you an order for righteousness while you yourself are corrupt within yourself, as he said:
لا تنه عن خلق وتأتى مثله
Do not forbid a vice and commit the like of it
عار عليك إذا فعلت عظيم
Shame upon you if you do a great thing.
فيكون من عظعظ السهم، إذا التوى واعوج.
So it would be from 'the arrow warped', when it twisted and became crooked.
يقول لنفسه: كيف تأمريني بالاستقامة وأنت تتعوجين.
He says to himself: How do you order me to be upright while you yourself are crooked.
