ومنهم من يقول قط يتبع الضمة الضمة، مثل مد يا هذا
And some of them say qat follows the dammah with a dammah, like madd, O you.
ومنهم من يقول قط مخففة، يجعله أداة ثم يبنيه على أصله ويضم آخره بالضمة التى في المشددة
And some of them say qat is lightened, making it a particle, then building it on its origin and adding a dammah to its end from the dammah in the doubled letter.
ومنهم من يتبع الضمة الضمة في المخففة أيضا ويقول قط، كقولهم لم أره مذ يومان، وهى قليلة
And some of them follow the dammah with a dammah in the lightened form as well and say qat, like their saying 'I haven't seen him since two days ago', and this is rare.
فأما إذا كانت بمعنى حسب وهو الاكتفاء، فهي مفتوحة ساكنة الطاء
But if it means 'hasb' (sufficiency), it is open with a silent taa'.
تقول: ما رأيته إلا مرة واحدة فقط
You say: I have not seen him except once only.
فإذا أضفت قلت قطك هذا الشئ، أي حسبك
And if you add, you say qattaka this thing, meaning 'enough for you'.
وقال قطني مهلا رويدا قد ملات بطني
And he said, 'Enough for me, gently, slowly, I have filled my belly'.
وإنما دخلت النون ليسلم السكون الذى بنى الاسم عليه
And the nun entered only so that the sukoon upon which the noun is built would be preserved.
وإنما أدخلوها في أسماء مخصوصة نحو قطني وقدنى وعنى ومنى
And they only introduced it into specific nouns like qatni, qadni, anni, and munna.
ويقال قطاط، مثل قطام، أي حسبى
And it is said qattat, like qattam, meaning 'enough for me'.
أطلت فراطهم حتى إذا ما قتلت سراتهم كانت قطاط
I let their leaders go until when I killed their nobles, it was enough.

يقال: وردنا أرضا قاطا سعرها

وجعد قطط، أي شديدة الجعودة
And tightly curly hair, meaning intensely curly.
وقد قطط شعره بالكسر، وهو أحد ما جاء على الاصل بإظهار التضعيف

Then ar-radhad, which is above al-qatqat, then at-tash, which is above ar-radhad, then al-baghsh, which is above at-tash, then al-ghubayyah, which is above al-baghshah, and similarly al-halbah, ash-shajdathah, al-hafshah, and al-hashkah, like al-ghubayyah.
