ويقال: قرط فرسه، إذا طرح اللجام في رأسه.
And it is said: he bridled his horse, if he placed the bridle on its head.
وقرط السراج إذا نزع منه ما احترق ليضئ.
And he trimmed the lamp if he removed from it what had burned to make it shine.
والقيراط: نصف دانق، وأصله قراط بالتشديد، لأن جمعه قراريط، فأبدل من إحدى حرفي تضعيفه ياء، عى ما ذكرناه في دينار.
And the qīrāṭ: half a dānq, and its origin is qirāṭ with a shadda, because its plural is qarārīṭ, so one of its doubled letters was replaced by a yā', as we mentioned concerning dīnār.
وأما القيراط الذى في الحديث فقد جاء تفسيره فيه أنه مثل جبل أحد.
As for the qīrāṭ mentioned in the hadith, its interpretation came within it, that it is like Mount Uhud.
والقرطيط: الداهية.
And al-qurṭīṭ: the calamity.
وما جاد فلان بقرطيطة، أي بشئ يسير.
And so-and-so did not give generously with a qurṭīṭah, meaning a small thing.
والقرطاط بالضم: البردعة، وكذلك القرطان بالنون.
And al-qurṭāṭ with dammah: the saddle pad, and likewise al-qurṭān with noon.
هي الحلس الذي يلقى تحت الرحل.
It is the saddle cloth that is placed under the riding saddle.
