وإنما كثر ذلك في أشعارهم لانهم كانوا ينتجعون أيام الكلا فيجتمع منهم قبائل شتى في مكان واحد، فتقع بينهم ألفة، فإذا افترقوا ورجعوا إلى أوطانهم ساءهم ذلك
And this became frequent in their poetry because they used to seek pasture in the days of fodder, and various tribes would gather in one place, and affection would develop between them. When they separated and returned to their homelands, this saddened them.
لا خلاط ولا وراط
No mixing and no separating.
لا يجمع بين متفرق ولا يفرق بين مجتمع خشية الصدقة
One does not combine what is separated nor separate what is joined, for fear of the charity.
تنازع العجاج وحميد الارقط أرجوزتين على الطاء فقال حميد: الخلاط يا أبا الشعثاء! فقال العجاج: الفجاج أوسع من ذلك يا ابن أخى. أي لا تخلط أرجوزتي بأرجوزتك
Al-A'ajj and Humayd al-Arqaṭ disputed two poems ending in 'ṭā', and Humayd said: 'Al-khilāṭ, O Abu al-Sha'thā!' So Al-A'ajj replied: 'The ravines are wider than that, O my nephew.' Meaning: Do not mix my poem with yours.
والخلطة، بالضم: الشركة
And al-khulṭah, with damma, means partnership.
والخلطة، بالكسر: العشرة
And al-khilṭah, with kasra, means familiarity.
والخلط أيضا: واحد أخلاط الطيب
And al-khulṭ is also the singular of the ingredients of perfume.

يقال: فلان مخلط مزيل، كما يقال: هو راتق فاتق
It is said: So-and-so is a meddler and a disturber, just as it is said: He is a mender and a fixer.
واخلطه صاحبه، إذا جعل قضيبه في الحياء
And his companion made him 'ikhlaṭ', when he inserted his penis into the vulva.
والخليط من العلف: قت وتبن
And al-khaliṭ from fodder is clover and straw.
ونهى عن الخليطين في الانبذة، وهو أن يجمع بين صنفين: تمر وزبيب، أو عنب ورطب
And he prohibited the two mixed things in beverages, which is to combine two types: dates and raisins, or grapes and fresh dates.
وخولط الرجل في عقله خلاطا
And the man's mind was corrupted with a corruption.
