And a seeker of favor who found no one to suffice him besides us.
وخبطت الرجل، إذا أنعمت عليه من غير معرفة بينكما.
And I bestowed favor upon the man, if you bestowed a favor upon him without any prior acquaintance between you.
وفي كل حي قد خبطت بنعمة
And in every tribe, I have bestowed bounty.
وقولهم: ما أدري أي خابط ليل هو؟
And their saying: 'I do not know what kind of person of the night he is?'
أي أي الناس هو.
Meaning, what kind of person he is.
والخباط بالضم، كالجنون وليس به.
And al-khubāṭ (with damma) is like madness, but it is not.
تقول منه تخبطه الشيطان، أي أفسده.
You say from it: 'Satan afflicted him' (takhabbaṭahu al-shayṭān), meaning he corrupted him.
والخباط، بالكسر: سمة في الفخذ طويلة عرضا.
And al-khubāṭ (with kasra) is a brand mark on the thigh, long in width.
تقول منه خبط بعيره خبطا.
You say from it: 'He branded his camel with a brand' (khabaṭa baʿīrahu khabṭan).
والخبطة، بالكسر: القليل من اللبن.
And al-khabṭah (with kasra) is a small amount of milk.
وقال أبو زيد: الخبط من الماء: الرفض، وهو ما بين الثلث إلى النصف من السقاء، والحوض، والغدير، والإناء.
And Abu Zayd said: Al-khubṭ (from water) is the remainder, which is between one-third and one-half of a waterskin, a basin, a pond, or a container.
وفي القربة خبطة من ماء، وهو مثل الجرعة ونحوها.
And in the waterskin is a khubṭah of water, which is like a sip or similar.
ويقال أيضا: كان ذلك بعد خبطة من الليل، أي بعد صدر منه.
It is also said: 'That was after a khubṭah of the night', meaning after its beginning.
والخبطة أيضا: القطعة من البيوت والناس، والجمع خبط.
And al-khubṭah is also a section of houses and people, and its plural is khubṭ.
