'Ibn Bayḍ blocked the road,' Al-Aṣmaʿī said: He was a man in ancient times called Ibn Bayḍ, who slaughtered his she-camel on a mountain pass and thus blocked the road and prevented people from traveling on it.
سددنا كما سد ابن بيض طريقه * فلم يجدوا عند الثنية مطلعا
We blocked it just as Ibn Bayḍ blocked his path * And they found no way up at the mountain pass.
والمبيضة، بكسر الياء: فرقة من الثنوية، وهم أصحاب المقنع، سموا بذلك لتبييضهم ثيابهم مخالفة للمسودة من أصحاب الدولة العباسية.
And Al-Mubayyiḍah, with a kasrah on the yaa': a faction of the dualists, who are the followers of Al-Muqanna', they were named that because they whitened their clothes in opposition to the black-clad followers of the Abbasid state.
