And the man was hungry and cold with kasra, so he is khariṣ, meaning hungry and cold.
وَلَا يُقَالُ لِلْجُوعِ بِلَا بَرْدٍ خَرْصٌ.
And hunger without cold is not called khars.
وَيُقَالُ لِلْبَرْدِ بِلَا جُوعٍ خَصِرٌ.
And cold without hunger is called khaṣir.
وَالخَرْصُ وَالخِرْصُ: الحَلْقَةُ مِنَ الذَّهَبِ وَالفِضَّةِ ; وَالجَمْعُ لِخَرْصَانَ.
And al-khars and al-khirs: the ring of gold and silver; and the plural is li-kharṣāna.
عَلَيْهِنَّ لَعْسٌ مِنْ ظِبَاءِ تِبَالَةَ * مُذَبْذَبَةُ الخُرْصَانِ بَادٍ نُحُورُهَا *

يَعَضُّ مِنْهَا الظِّلْفُ الدِّئِيَّا * عَضَّ الثِّقَافِ الخَرْصَ الخَطِيَّا *
The hoof bites from it the stubborn one * like the striking of the spearhead, the straight one *

You see the straightness of the reeds, as if they are * measuring palm fronds in the hands of the woodcutters *
وَالخَرْصُ أَيْضًا: عُوَيْدٌ مُحَدَّدُ الرَّأْسِ، يُغْرَزُ فِي عُقَدِ السِّقَاءِ.
And al-khars also: a small stick with a pointed head, which is inserted into the knots of the waterskin.
وَمِنْهُ قَوْلُهُمْ: مَا يَمْلِكُ فُلَانٌ خَرْصًا وَلَا خَرْصًا، أَيْ شَيْئًا.
And from it is their saying: So-and-so does not own a pin or a pin, meaning anything.
مَعَهُ سِقَاءٌ لَا يُفَرِّطُ حِمْلُهُ * صَفِنٌ وَأَخْرَاصٌ يَلْحَنُ وَمَسْأَبٌ *
He has a waterskin whose load is not excessive * firm and pointed pins that indicate and a place to draw water *
وَالخِرِيصُ: السِّنَانُ.
And al-khirīṣ: the spearhead.
وَتَشَاجَرَتْ أَبْطَالُنَا (1) * بِالمُشْرِفِيِّ وَبِالخِرِيصِ *
And our heroes clashed * with the Mushrifī sword and with the spearhead *
وَمَاءٌ خِرِيصٌ مِثْلُ خَصِرٍ، أَيْ بَارِدٌ.
