And it is said rather it is narrowness in one of the two eyes.
والرجل أحوص.

ويقال: هو يحاوص فلانا، أي ينظر إليه بمؤخر عينه ويخفى ذلك.
And it is said: He is hayawis fulan, meaning he looks at him from the corner of his eye and this is hidden.
والاحوصان: أحوص بن جعفر بن كلاب واسمه ربيعة، وكان صغير العينين.
And Al-Ahwasan: Ahwas bin Ja'far bin Kilab, and his name was Rabi'ah, and he had small eyes.
وعمرو ابن الاحوص، وقد رأس.
And Amr ibn Al-Ahwas, and he had leadership.
أتانى وعيد الحوص من آل جعفر
The threat of Al-Haws from the family of Ja'far came to me.
فيا عبد عمرو لو نهيت الاحاوصا
O Abd Amr, if only you had warned Al-Ahawis.
يعنى عبد عمرو بن شريح بن الاحوص.
He means Abd Amr bin Shurayh bin Al-Ahwas.
وعنى بالاحاوص من ولده الاحوص، منهم عوف بن الاحوص، وعمرو بن الاحوص، وشريح بن الاحوص.
And he meant by Al-Ahawis from his offspring Al-Ahwas, among them Awf bin Al-Ahwas, Amr bin Al-Ahwas, and Shurayh bin Al-Ahwas.
وكان علقمة بن علاثة ابن عوف بن الاحوص، نافر عامر بن الطفيل ابن مالك بن جعفر، فهجا الاعشى علقمة ومدح عامرا، فأوعده بالقتل.
And Alqamah bin Alatha, son of Awf bin Al-Ahwas, competed with Amir bin Al-Tufayl, son of Malik bin Ja'far. So Al-A'sha satirized Alqamah and praised Amir, and threatened him with death.
