والكادس: ما يتطير به من الفال والعطاس ونحو ذلك.
And 'al-kādis': is what one takes as an omen from a good sign, sneezing, and the like.
ومننه قيل للظبي وغيره إذا نزل من الجبل: كادس، يتشاءم به كما يتشاءم بالبارح.
And from this, it is said of a gazelle or other animal when it descends from the mountain: 'kādis', it is considered an ill omen, just as one considers 'al-bāriḥ' an ill omen.
