والقلنسوة والقلنسية، إذا فتحت القاف ضممت السين، وإن ضمت القاف كسرت السين وقلبت الواو ياء.

And al-qalansuwah and al-qalansiyah, if you open the Qaf, you add the Sin; and if you add the Qaf, you break the Sin and change the Waw to Ya.

فإذا جمعت أو صغرت فأنت بالخيار لان فيه زيادتين الواو والنون، إن شئت حذفت الواو وقلت قلانس، وإن شئت حذفت النون وقلت قلاس، وإنما حذفت الواو لاجتماع الساكنين.

And if you pluralize or make it diminutive, you have a choice because it has two additions, Waw and Nun. If you wish, you delete the Waw and say qalānis; and if you wish, you delete the Nun and say qalās; and you only delete the Waw due to the meeting of two silent letters.

وإن شئت عوضت فيهما ياء وقلت قلانيس أو قلاسى.

And if you wish, you substitute them with Ya and say qalānīs or qalāsā.

وتقول في التصغير: قلينسة، ولك أن تعوض فيهما وتقول قلينيسة وقليسية بتشديد الياء الاخيرة.

And you say in the diminutive: qulaynisah, and you may substitute them and say qulaynisah and qulaysiyah with a shadda on the last Ya.

وإن شئت جمعت القلنسوة بحذف الهاء فقلت قلنس وأصله قلنسو، لانك رفضت الواو، لانه ليس في الاسماء اسم آخره حرف علة وقبلها ضمة، فإذا أدى إلى ذلك قياس وجب أن يرفض ويبدل من الضمة كسرة، فيصير آخر الاسم ياء مكسورا ما قبلها.

And if you wish, you pluralize al-qalansuwah by deleting the Ha, so you say qalans, and its origin is qalansuw, because you rejected the Waw, as there is no noun whose end is a weak letter preceded by a dammah. So if the analogy leads to that, it must be rejected and the dammah replaced by a kasrah, so the end of the noun becomes a Ya with a preceding kasrah.

وقد قلسيته فتقلسى، وتقلنس، وتقلس، أي ألبسته القلنسوة فلبسها.

And I made him wear the cap, so he wore it, and he wore the cap, and he wore the cap, meaning I dressed him with the cap, so he wore it.

والتقليس: الضرب بالدف والغناء.
