وأنكره المبرد، ولم يجوز في ضرورة الشعر ترك صرف ما ينصرف
And Al-Mubarrad rejected it, and did not permit in poetic license the omission of what should be inflected.

The correct narration is 'they surpass my elder in the gathering'.
ويقال: ما أدرى أين ردس؟
And it is said: I do not know where he went?
أي أين ذهب
Meaning where he went.
