And al-wathr (with fatha): the stallion's fluid that collects in the mare's womb and then she does not conceive.
يقال: وثرها الفحل يثرها وثرا، إذا أكثر ضرابها ولم تلقح.
It is said: the stallion covered her (watharahā) - he covers her (yatharuhā) - a repeated covering (watharan), if he increased his copulation with her and she did not conceive.
واستوثرت من الشئ، أي استكثرت منه، مثل: استوثنت، واستوثجت.
And I sought abundance from the thing, meaning I sought a lot of it, like: astawthant, and astawthajat.
وميثرة الفرس: لبدته، غير مهموز، والجمع مياثر ومواثر.
And the mitharah of the horse: its saddle pad, not hamzated, and the plural is mayāthir and mawāthir.
وأما المياثر الحمر التي جاء فيها النهي فإنها كانت من مراكب العجم، من ديباج
And as for the red mayāthir which were prohibited, they were from the riding gear of the non-Arabs, made of silk.
