أيّها المنكح الثريّا سهيلاً * عمرك الله كيف يلتقيان
O one who marries the Pleiades to Suhail * May God grant you long life, how do they meet?
والعمر: واحد عمور الأسنان، وهو ما بينها من اللحم.
And al-'umr: the singular of the gums of the teeth, which is the flesh between them.
وعمرو: اسم رجل، يكتب بالواو للفرق بينه وبين عمر، وتسقطها في النصب لان الالف تخلفها، ويجمع على عمور.
And 'Amr: is the name of a man, written with a 'waw' to distinguish it from 'Umar, and you omit it in the accusative because the 'alif' replaces it, and it is pluralized as 'umūr.
وشيد لي زرارة باذخات * وعمرو الخير إن ذكر العمور
And Zurara built for me lofty structures * And 'Amr al-Khayr when the 'Amrs are mentioned.
وعمرويه: شيئان جعلا واحدا.

والعمرة في الحج، وأصلها من الزيارة، والجمع العمر.
And al-'umrah is in Hajj, and its origin is from visiting, and the plural is al-'umūr.
والعمرة: أن يبني الرجل بامرأته في أهلها، فإن نقلها إلى أهله فذلك العرس.
And al-'umrah: is for a man to consummate his marriage with his wife among her family; if he moves her to his family, that is al-'urs.
وعمرت الخراب أعمره عمارة، فهو عامر، أي معمور، مثل ماء دافق أي مدفوق، وعيشة راضية أي مرضية.
And I inhabited the ruin, I inhabit it 'imārah, so it is 'āmir, meaning inhabited, like flowing water meaning poured, and a pleasing life meaning pleasing.
والعمارة أيضا: القبيلة والعشيرة.
And al-'imārah also: the tribe and the clan.
لكل أناس من معد عمارة * عروض إليها يلجؤون وجانب

ومكان عمير، أي عامر.

ويقال: تركت القوم في عومرة، أي في صياح وجلبة.
And it is said: I left the people in 'awmarah, meaning in shouting and clamor.
وأعمرته دارا أو أرضا أو إبلا، إذا أعطيته إياها وقلت: هي لك عمري أو عمرك، فإذا مت رجعت إلي.
And I granted him a house, or land, or camels, if I gave it to him and said: It is yours for my life or your life, then when you die it returns to me.

وأعمرت الأرض: وجدتها عامرة.
And I found the land inhabited ('a'martu al-arḍa: wajadtuhā 'āmirah).
يقال عمر الله بك منزلك، وأعمر الله بك منزلك.
It is said: 'Umra Allah bik manzilak, and 'A'mar Allah bik manzilak.
ولا يقال أعمر الرجل منزله بالالف.
And it is not said: 'A'mara the man his dwelling (with alif).
واعتمره، أي زاره.
And 'i'tamara-hu, meaning he visited him.
واعتمر في الحج واعتمر، أي تعمم بالعمامة.
And he performed 'umrah in Hajj and 'i'tamara, meaning he wore the turban.
العمارة بالفتح: كل شئ جعلته على رأسك من عمامة أو قلنسوة أو تاج أو غير ذلك.
Al-'imārah (with fatha): everything you place on your head, from a turban, or a cap, or a crown, or otherwise.
فلما أتانا بعيد الكرى * سجدنا له ورفعنا العمارا
And when he came to us after sleep * We prostrated to him and removed our headwear.
أي وضعناها عن رؤوسنا إعظاما له.
Meaning we took them off our heads out of reverence for him.
وقال غيره: رفعنا له أصواتنا بالدعاء وقلنا: عمرك الله.
And others said: We raised our voices in supplication for him and said: May God grant you long life.
ويقال: العمار ها هنا: الريحان يزين به مجالس الشراب، وتسمية الفرس ميوران.
And it is said: Al-'immār here: are the fragrant herbs used to adorn drinking gatherings, and the Persians call them miyūrān.
فإذا دخل عليهم داخل رفعوا شيئا منه بأيديهم وحيوه به.
And if an entrant came upon them, they would raise something of it with their hands and greet him with it.
وجاشت النفس لما جاء فلهم * وراكب جاء من تثليث معتمر
And the soul stirred when they came * And a rider came from Tathlith wearing a turban.
فإن الأصمعي يقول: معتمر، أي زائر.
And Al-Asma'i says: Mu'tamir, meaning visitor.
وقال أبو عبيدة: أي متعمم بالعمامة.
And Abu 'Ubaydah said: Meaning wearing a turban.
فهو من عمرة الحج.
So it is from the 'umrah of Hajj.
واستعمركم فيها *، أي جعلكم عمارها.
And He has made you its inhabitants (ista'marakum fīhā), meaning He made you its builders/dwellers.
عمره الله تعميراً، أي طول الله عمره.
May God grant him a long life ('ammara-hu Allah ta'mīran), meaning may God prolong his life.
عمار البيوت: سكانها من الجن.
The 'ummār of houses: their inhabitants from the jinn.
أحولي تنفض استك مذرويها * لتقتلني فها أنا ذا عمارا
O my beloved, shaking your forelegs * to kill me, here I am, 'Ammār (a truncated form of 'Imārah).
هو ترخيم عمارة، لانه يهجو به عمارة بن زياد العبسى.
It is the truncation of 'Imārah, because he is insulting 'Imārah ibn Ziyad al-'Absi with it.
والمعمر: المنزل الواسع من جهة الماء والكلأ.
And al-Mu'ammar: the spacious dwelling in terms of water and pasture.
يا لك من قبرة بمعمر
Oh, what a lark in a spacious place!
يبغينك في الارض معمرا
They seek for you in the land a place to inhabit.
أي يبغين لك، كقوله تعالى: (يبغونها عوجا).
Meaning they seek for you, like His saying: (they seek it crooked).
يحيى بن يعمر العدواني، لا ينصرف يعمر لانه مثل يذهب.
Yahya ibn Ya'mur al-'Adwani, Ya'mur is indeclinable because it is like 'yadhhabu'.
العمران: أبو بكر وعمر رضى الله عنهما.
Al-'Umran: Abu Bakr and Umar, may God be pleased with them.
لقد قيل سيرة العمرين قبل عمر بن عبد العزيز، لانهم قالوا لعثمان رضى الله عنه يوم الدار: نسألك سيرة العمرين.
Indeed, the way of the two 'Umars was mentioned before 'Umar ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz, because they said to 'Uthman, may God be pleased with him, on the day of the house: We ask you for the way of the two 'Umars.
أعتق العمران فما بينهما من الخلفاء أمهات الاولاد.
He freed the two 'Umars and the Caliphs between them, the mothers of children.
وفى قول قتادة أنه عمر بن الخطاب وعمر بن عبد العزيز، لانه لم يكن بين أبى بكر وعمر خليفة.
And in Qatadah's saying, it is Umar ibn al-Khattab and Umar ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz, because there was no Caliph between Abu Bakr and Umar.
العمران: عمرو بن جابر بن هلال بن عقيل ابن سمى بن مازن بن فزارة، وبدر بن عمرو بن جؤية بن لوذان بن ثعلبة بن عدى بن فزارة، وهما روقا فزارة.
Al-'Umran: 'Amr ibn Jabir ibn Hilal ibn 'Aqil ibn Sumay ibn Mazin ibn Fazarah, and Badr ibn 'Amr ibn Ju'ayyah ibn Lawdhan ibn Tha'labah ibn 'Adi ibn Fazarah, and they are the two prominent figures of Fazarah.
