And we expelled so-and-so's children from such-and-such a place, meaning we drove them out.
ونحن شغرنا ابني نزار كليهما * وكلبا بوقع مرهب متقارب
And we expelled the two sons of Nizar and Kalb with a terrifying, close-by strike.
والشغار بكسر الشين: نكاح كان في الجاهلية، وهو أن يقول الرجل لآخر: زوجني ابنتك أو أختك عى أن أزوجك أختي أو ابنتي، على أن صداق كل واحدة منهما بضع الأخرى.
And al-shighar, with a kasra on the shin: a marriage that existed in the pre-Islamic era, where a man would say to another: 'Marry your daughter or sister to me in exchange for me marrying my sister or daughter to you, such that the dowry of each woman is the other's chastity.'
كأنهما رفعا المهر وأخليا البضع عنه.
It is as if they nullified the dowry and left the chastity (as the exchange).
وفي الحديث: " لا شغار في الإسلام ".
And in the Hadith: 'There is no shighar in Islam.'
وتفرقوا شغر بغر: أي في كل وجه.
And they dispersed shighr baghr: meaning in every direction.
