And al-da'r is also the masdar of your saying: the wood became spoiled (d'ara) with a kasra, it yud'aru, a spoilage (da'ran), so it is spoiled wood (d'ir), meaning bad and smoky.
وَمِنْهُ أَخَذَتِ الدَّعَارَةُ، وَهِيَ الْفِسْقُ وَالْخُبْثُ.
From this is derived al-da'arah, which is lewdness and wickedness.
يُقَالُ: هُوَ خَبِيثٌ دَاعِرٌ بَيْنَ الدَّعْرِ وَالدَّعَارَةِ.
It is said: he is a wicked, depraved person, characterized by corruption and debauchery.
وَالْمَرْأَةُ دَاعِرَةٌ، عَنْ أَبِي عَمْرٍو.
And the woman is a prostitute (dā'irah), according to Abu Amr.
وَدَاعِرٌ أَيْضًا: اسْمُ فَحْلٍ مُنْجِبٍ تُنْسَبُ إِلَيْهِ الدَّاعِرِيَّةُ مِنَ الْإِبِلِ.
And Dā'ir is also the name of a fertile stallion to whom the camel breed al-Dā'iriyyah is attributed.
وَحَكَى الْغَنَوِيُّ: عُودٌ دَعِرٌ، مِثَالُ صِرَدٍ.
And al-Ghanawi narrated: spoiled wood (d'ir), like sirad.
وَأَنْشَدَ: يَحْمِلْنَ فَحْمًا جَيِّدًا غَيْرَ دَعِرٍ
And he recited: They carry good charcoal, not spoiled.
وَالزَّنْدُ الْأَدْعَرُ: الَّذِي قُدِحَ بِهِ مِرَارًا فَاحْتَرَقَ طَرَفُهُ، فَصَارَ لَا يُورِي.
And the fire drill (al-zand) al-ad'ar is that which has been struck repeatedly until its tip has burned out, so it no longer ignites.
